DIY – Proper Spacing vs. Wrong Spacing of BirdSavers cords

Example 1 of 3

Proper spacing of BirdSavers cords using individual top supports;

In the example below, the BirdSavers cords are properly spaced for the most aesthetically pleasing effect. Three separate ‘top supports’ are used in this example. The only difference between Example 1 and Example 2 is that Example 1 has three top supports and Example 2 has only one top support. Determining where the BirdSavers cords will be placed on that one top support in Example 2 is critical so that the cords are spaced evenly on the pane of glass below it. (This view is looking at the building from the outside.)

[Example 3 shows cords that are improperly spaced.]

Example 2 of 3

Proper spacing of BirdSavers cords using only one top support:

In the example below, the BirdSavers cords are properly spaced for the most aesthetically pleasing effect. One ‘top support’ is used in this example. The only difference between Example 1 and Example 2 is that Example 1 has three top supports and Example 2 has only one top support. Determining where the BirdSavers cords will be placed on that one top support in Example 2 is critical so that the cords are spaced evenly on the pane of glass below it. Proper Spacing vs. Wrong Spacing of BirdSavers cords

Example 3 of 3

WRONG spacing of BirdSavers cords!

In the example below, the BirdSavers cords are improperly spaced. In the two previous examples of properly spaced BirdSavers cords, only 18 cords were used for the 7’ 6” wide ‘window’; the quantity of cords needed should be based on the 29.3” glass width. In this Example 3, based on the overall glass width of 7’ 6”, 21 cords were used. This is the incorrect width to determine the number of cords that are needed and results in the use of 3 more cords than are necessary, which effectively diminishes the beauty of the installation by creating a cramped feeling as compared to BirdSavers cords that are properly spaced as in Example 1 and Example 2. (This view is looking at the building from the outside.)
